Meet you in a specific place (airport, hotel, your home, etc.) by a private car.
Head to Junagarh by a private car (about 7 hours). View the Mahabat Maqbara in Junagarh. Then, head to the village in Sasan Gir is the base for safari.
※If a tour plan is without a guide, you enjoy the sightseeing in Junagarh by yourself.

In the early morning, head to the forest in Sasan Gir for safari.  While safari, may have chances to meet not only Asiatic Lions but also Chitals(Spotted Deers), Sambars, Marsh Crocodiles, Mongooses and to observe various wild birds. After go back to the hotel and have breakfast, please have time for relaxing.  Then, go out for evening safari.

  • ** Safari activity is conducted by a jeep for exclusive use.  The jeep is an open type (has no roof) suitable to watch animals, but makes a lot of dust.  Therefore, it is better to prepare a hat/cap and a pair of sunglasses for protecting yourselves from sunburn.  In the park, there are a couple of routes for safari and a park officer decides which route can be taken before entering in the park.  For the picture shooting, 500 rupees for one camera is required as camera brought in charge.  Also, at the park entrance, all visitors are checked their IDs, so please bring your passports with you.

Once the Asiatic lions were almost exterminated. By the people’s endeavor the number of heads has recovered more than 400 at present. Visit the Gir Forest National Park is the only one forest where Asiatic Lions inhabit. Observe not only Asiatic Lions, the wild animals in Indian forest such as Chital (Spotted Deer), Sambar, Nilgai, etc. and many wild birds.
Additional safari as option could be arranged
This tour plan includes 2 times safaris by a jeep for exclusive use, but if you want to change the planned sightseeing in Junagarh to a safari, it could be possible. Conducting safari is required a permission each time, if you want to an additional safari to be arranged, please consult us as early as possible.

Drinking
The state of Gujarat is the state of prohibiting drinking. Therefore, people are not allowed to drink in the public places such as restaurants and if you want to drink, you may do within your hotel room. Buying a bottle of alcoholic is limited at a shop having the liquor permission during shop open hours. If you want to buy alcoholic drinks at the locale, please tell us before your departure, then we inform the guide on it beforehand. Also, please prepare the copies of passport, India visa, and India immigration stamp.

The last Asiatic Lions inhabit in the Forest in India
Gir Forest National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary

It is established in 1965 as a national park and located in south of Gujarat. The space is 1,412 square km. The 258 square km is under the full control as national park and the 1,158 square km is the sanctuary. The Gir Forest National Park is known the last Asiatic Lions inhabit. The academic term is Panthera leo percica. The lions appear on the works in relief in the eras of Mesopotamia civilization and the ancient Persia civilization. They widely inhabited in the south regions in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and India. Today, they are the precious animal inhabit in the Gir Forest National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest in Gir was designated as sanctuary by the royal family in Junagarh in the beginning of 1900s. At that time, the number of Asiatic Lions dropped to 15 heads due to the excess trophy hunting. Later, the endeavors made by people for the forest department in the government and people for NGO resulted in the number of Asiatic Lions increased in the forest of deciduous trees in Gir. The research in 2010 showed the recovery to the number of heads 411 (male 200, female 180 and cubs 100). The Gir Forest National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary is the forest comprises dry teak and deciduous trees. In the east, the forest of Acacia and savanna spread out, in the forest 7 rivers flow and form 4 water reservoirs. There are about 300 places for watering animals, and the water keeps the wild animals alive in a hot weather. The climate and the quantity of precipitation between the east area and the west area in the national park are largely different. The annual quantity of precipitation in the east area is 650 mm where the forest of Acacia and savanna spread out, but in the west area exceeds 1000 mm.

Asiatic Lion

In past, the number of Asiatic Lions dropped to 15 heads, but the Lion Breeding Programme saved this crisis. In this programme, the breeding center was built, researched the behavior of Asiatic Lions and practiced the artificial insemination. The breeding center of Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagarh was successful in having 180 new born cubs and sent 126 cubs to the zoos in India and abroad. The Lions' population research is conducted every 5 years.

Junagarh

Junagarh has an unusual history. At the segregation between India and Pakistan in 1947, the king at that time wanted to belong to Pakistan because he was a Muslim (Islam). However, the most citizens were Hindu, so the king himself moved to Pakistan. In Junagarh, there are the Uperkot Fort built in 319 BC, the mausoleum Mahabat Maqbara is said a masterpiece of India Islam architecture, and the old city in which the historical buildings are used at present and is full of energy.
